Wine of the Month: Berry Bros & Rudd's 2005 Extra Ordinary Claret

I don’t know about you, but for me the first half of December is always a mad dash of tying up loose ends before Christmas and New Years, making sure I see all the folks I need to see for whatever festive season reason … et cetera. It’s always a heap of fun, just exhausting. This December is proving to be no exception. So, it’s wonderful to find myself settled in, pee-jays on and feet propped up with a glass of vino at my side. And a very flavourful glass of vino at that!

Berry Bros & Rudd’s 2005 Extra Ordinary Claret (reckoned to be “the greatest vintage” of Extra Ordinary Claret by Berry’s sales and marketing director, Simon Staples) indeed offers the right stuff for quality quaffing. With legs so gorgeous I feel as though my glass should be wearing a skirt, this densely potent claret packs a wallop when it hits the palate. With a vegetal tone that hints of fennel and cardamom, this is an intriguing wine that’s making my Monday night taste a lot better than usual. Priced nicely at £11.95 per bottle or £10.76 per bottle when unsplit orders of six are purchased, here’s a good one for Santa’s list.
