O Compact Oriental Spruce, O Compact Oriental Spruce?

Having just moved into a new home with a small garden a couple of months back, this Christmas is going to be a particularly green one for me. With a delivery last week of a Compact Oriental Spruce from online nursery, Lubera.co.uk, the festive gardening season has commenced. Let’s hope Santa’s sack is filled with compost this year!

Available as part of Lubera’s Christmas Market range of products, the Compact Oriental Spruce features short, not-so-prickly needles with golden shoots in the spring which turn green in the summer. When I came upon it browsing the pages of the Lubera website, it looked like the perfect fit for my front room until the New Year and then the garden.

After ten years, this small evergreen reaches a full height of only 150cm at most, making it an ideal fit for urban gardens or even potted on a balcony or terrace. With proper care, the same tree can be used for years as an indoor decorated Christmas tree.

I’m not sure if it will find permanent residence outside or serve as a seasonal inside guest every December. But I know it will be fun watching it grow over the years and remember the first Christmas in my new home.
