Uni Restaurant, Elegant Setting for Nikkei Cuisine on Ebury Street

Uni tacos

Uni Restaurant offers discerning diners Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian) cuisine in a sleek yet cozy Belgravia setting.

I dropped by for a Friday night graze of ex-Nobu Chef Rolando Ongcoy’s menu a few weeks back and was pleased to have done so. Spread over two attractive floors with marble and leather design elements, the restaurant exuded an upscale elegance with the causal air of a beloved neighbourhood haunt, ideal for sampling the range of Ongcoy’s Pacific inspired creations.

My favourite dish? Hmm … tough call but I loved the salmon tacos (salmon tartare, cucumber, tomato, masago and creamy miso, £2.90 each). Rock shrimp tempura (with creamy spicy mayo and ponzu dressing, £12.50) and miso black cod (anticucho sauce, £22) were key highlights from an array of dishes, none of which failed to please. A taste of fresh and top quality sushi, sashimi and tiraditos did the trick as well.

Cocktails rocked. I loved my Pisco sour and reckon it was as good as any I’ve had in town. Dessert? The cheesecake ice cream mochi wowed with each sweet and umami mouthful!

Service was swift and exceptionally polite.

Uni is located at 18a Ebury Street, SW1W 0LU. Find out more at restaurantuni.com.
