St George Cheeseburger at BRGR.CO

Slay the dragon of deep carnal cravings and celebrate St George’s Day throughout April with BRGR.CO’s limited offer St George cheeseburger – a blade steak patty topped with a Cheddar and a Red Leicester cross and served with a side of sweet, sticky caramelised onions and a portion of fries for only £10 (or upgrade to hanger steak for an extra £2 – I did).

Back in 2012, soon after BRGR.CO had launched I went round to review and was not aimpressed with what was on offer. I thought the offering was bland. But everybody deserves a second chance. Plus, a lot can change over the course of a few years. So I’m pleased to report that the invitation to drop by for a taste of the St George cheeseburger led to an opportunity to see how this burger joint has upped its game and updated the menu for the better.

Much better, in fact. I love how customers can choose between a blade steak, hanger steak or rump steak patty. Prices for burgers start at £6.75 for a basic blade steak burger, and all burgers are 6oz of grass fed Scottish beef, served in a toasted demi brioche bun with iceberg lettuce, beefsteak tomato, red onion and sweet pickled gherkin.

As for the St George, it was a tasty mélange with the novelty of Cheddar/Red Leicester cross actually working as an excellent flavour combo as well. The stewed onions on the side were a nice touch (but I was glad they were on the side for me to decide how much to add). The beef was super juicy. I thought £10 for the burger and an ample side of fries (£12 for me actually as I upgraded to the hanger steak) was great value.

Fries were a treat too (and a significant improvement from what I tried a few years back). An A&W root beer ice cream (£4) float did the trick to ensure I was well satiated.

Service was swift and friendly.

BRGR.CO is located at 187 Wardour Street, W1F 8ZB. There’s another outlet on the King’s Road as well. Find out more at brgrco.co.uk.
