Win a Family Healthy Smile Kit from TePe

I’ve teamed up with healthy smile experts TePe to offer 10 readers the chance to win a family oral health kit. Each kit includes a selection of interdental brushes, toothbrushes, flosses and more to ensure you and your family keep smiling with pride.

This blog is largely based on me recommending and sometimes even giving away a lot of tasty treats. Of course, I do so under the assumption that my readers enjoy such goodies in moderation and as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. I hope my blogging and the things I blog about bring a smile to your face and that your smile is as bright and clean as possible.

Recently, I attended an informal workshop about oral health hosted by top quality oral hygiene brand, TePe. During the event, I had the pleasure of meeting Elaine Tilling, head of Clinical Education at TePe UK recently. She had these tips to share about maintaining the best smile:

  • Ensure that the toothbrush is the right size for the mouth – think small! The smaller the brush head is, the easier it is to access the backs of the mouth and the inside surfaces down by the tongue. Medium to soft filaments are the most effective and least damaging to the teeth and gums.
  • Children under the age of 7 years lack the manual dexterity to brush effectively for themselves – an adult needs to supervise and assist under 7s at least once a day in their oral care routine. You do have to start as you mean to go on. Tooth decay is preventable.
  • Encourage the use of disclosing tablets, such as PlaqSearch, for all of the family over the age of 7. Disclosing solution and tablets simply dye the plaque on the teeth so that you can see it clearly to remove it. Challenge each other to brush first and then check their brushing by disclosing the mouth after brushing for 2 minutes. This helps us to recognise where the plaque sits in the mouth and where we routinely miss with our tooth brush. (The age limit is because most children can be relied upon to spit out at 7 years. Swallowing the food dye is harmless but can cause blue wee!)
  • Tooth brushing alone misses 40% of the tooth surfaces – the surfaces in between the teeth. Most dental disease start in between the teeth, so introducing interdental cleaning in the early teens is a great way to help protect against gum disease. Where the spaces are tight, floss should be used, if the spaces are wide enough, an interdental brush will be easier and more effective than floss.

To help you and your family make the most of this gleamingly great advice, TePe is offering 10 family oral health kits for free to my readers.
