The Wigmore Opens at The Langham

Luxury HQ, The Langham London hotel, has opened a pub. Set at the original entrance to the hotel (and most recently the former lobbly of the hotel’s spa), The Wigmore is a spacious, high ceilinged place for drinks and casual dining.

Nice thing is that the pub’s got all the upscale charm and yummy offerings you’d expect from The Langham coupled with an expressly come-as-you air to it and a modern British menu that’s simply put and easy on the wallet (for The Langham and for its general environs).

Nibbled highlights from my visit to last night’s launch include fried green olives with veal and oregano (which is now my new favourite bar snack, £6); an obscenely cheesy and extra large stovetop toastie (£9); irresistible chips with bloody Mary salt; and an awesome grilled ox tongue cheeseburger (£13.50).

Those sound good? They should. The menu was developed by Chef Michel Roux Jr (who runs The Langham’s Roux at The Landau restaurant with his father Chef Albert Roux).

For my sips, I enjoyed The Wigmore’s own fruity and easygoing Saison (brewed by Brew By Numbers in Bermondsey, £4.50 for 2/3 pint) and a super refreshing G&T with Gin Mare, Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic (£9.50), orange, olives and thyme.

Not trying to reinvent the wheel with this one but, perhaps, giving it a good polish and making sure it rolls smoothly, The Langham produced a real winner with this one.

And it’s a good feeling writing about a new pub opening in Central London too!

The Wigmore is located at 15 Langham Place, W1B 3DE. Find out more at
