Savour the Flavours of Friuli Venezia Giulia | #FVGFlavour

Before this summer’s tour of Friuli Venezia Giulia, it had been five years since I had visited last this intriguing corner of northeastern Italy. I will not allow so much time to pass until I head back again.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the highlights of my time in FVG. I feel extremely fortunate to have seen such a substantial swathe of this beautiful region. But I realise fully that I’ve only just started to scratch the surface.

ACCOMMODATION

During my trip, I stayed at two different places: Casa Rossa ai Colli in the foothills of the Dolomites and Hotel Continentale in Trieste. I recommend both for people looking for comfortable and smartly situated accommodation in FVG.

Casa Rossa ai Colli

On a hill above the village of Ragogna not far from San Daniele de Friuli, Agriturismo Casa Rossa ai Colli’s best features are its gorgeous mountain and valley views, its fresh country air and the absolute quietude. I arrived here late at night and was greeted by a bashful badger bumbling along the private lane on my drive up to the casa. I was pleased to find my room was impeccably clean and with a huge bed. Breakfast the next morning was yummy (I heard dinner here is a real treat but did not get to experience it for myself). For details go to casarossaaicolli.com.

Hotel Continentale

In the heart of “downtown” Trieste on tiny pedestrian street Via San Nicolò, is the four-star Hotel Continenale, offering all the usual amenities for a variety of room sizes. Mine was a small but ideal pit stop with a comfy bed, hot shower and quality breakfast. All the things I had planned to see while in Trieste (plus lots more awesome things I happened upon) were within easy reach of this hotel. Find out more at continentalhotel.com.
