Autumn’s New Arrival: The Allegory

Drake and Morgan opens The Allegory in Shoreditch. Demi Perera reports.

On the crisp autumn evening of 19th October, bar and restaurant heavyweights Drake and Morgan delivered their unmistakable dining style to East London. The Allegory opened it’s doors to a gathering of the capital’s press in Shoreditch in a much anticipated opening.

The bar and restaurant designed by Sam Smith of Fusion Design and Architecture is a space conceived to see and be seen at. The copper lined back bar is a showpiece for the lavish drinks offer. The kitchen pass grants a theatre for viewing the busy gallery where the magic happens. Unique pieces of wall art created by Peter Barber, Carne Griffiths and Mr. Cenz adorn the walls of the beautifully balanced space offering a vibe that is in keeping with its location where the city meets Shoreditch.

What we ate

The chefs rolled out  a non stop train of mini versions of the phenomenal autumn menu. Trays of warm pulled pork parcels, mini burgers, haddock and chips, padron peppers and prawn lollipops were carried through the crowds, Gatsby style, to everyone’s delight. Needless to say, it all disappeared in seconds!

If sharing food is your thing then make no mistake that the Allegory is the place to do it. Their All Day Menu is packed full of handcrafted nibbles created (surely) just for sharing. However, having tasted these delights there is no guarantee that one would willingly share any of it.

What we sipped

We sipped Chilean sauvignon blanc, New Zealand riesling, French merlot and Italian beer. How very London! The magical voyage of discovery that is The Allegory’s cocktail list was a journey of both taste, colour and gratification.

So if a relaxed atmosphere, fuss free drinking and lingering brunches in a dazzling space are what you are into be sure to check them out. You can dine alfresco, drink at the open plan bar or cosy up in a candle lit dinner. It’s all here for the taking.

The Allegory is located at 1A Principal Place, Worship Street, London, EC2A 2BA. Find out more at drakeandmorgan.co.uky.
