Four Hundred Rabbits Sourdough Pizza in South London


Four Hundred Rabbits is a South London group of pizzerias with locations in Crystal Palace and Nunhead. The group specialises in sourdough pizzas baked in wood-fired ovens and served alongside (a rather South London centric list) of craft beers.

I dropped by the Nunhead branch for lunch last week and was pleased with what I got to sample: a tried and true margherita (San Marzano tomato, fior di latte, basil and olive oil, £7.25) that I’d be more than happy to have again and a limited edition pizza for November featuring smoked pork belly, kimchi, roasted pineapple, smoked mozzarella and crème fraîche (£9.75) that was well worth crossing the river for me to taste.


Wow! Seriously, if you’re not hung up on the pineapple on your pizza fixation that seems to throw so many people off go for this yummy combo. And if you are hung up on said fixation, well, get over it because you’re missing out! Or just order something else from the menu. Might I recommend the aged rare breed beef pizza with green chillies, onion, tomato and mozzarella (£9.75)? I had a bite of this one too, and it was a meaty and flavoursome treat.

Whatever you end up having, consider getting some housemade dips on the side. I especially enjoyed the blue cheese dip (£1.50).

Pairing nicely with each slice I had was a pint of Ciel Rouge red ale, a biscuit-y and lightly spicy collaborative beer from Bristol’s Lost & Grounded and Burning Sky breweries.

For dessert, there’s Gelupo gelato. I loved a scoop each of the salted caramel and pecan and the blood orange sorbet (one scoop £3, two scoops £4, three scoops £5). If I hadn’t have had to dash, I would have been keen to indulge in an espresso too (Four Hundred Rabbits serve Allpress coffee).


Beyond the awesome pizza, beer and ice cream, I liked the laidback feel and pleasant look and feel of the restaurant. Service was super friendly, fast and helpful.
