Where to Dine in Dublin | Piglet Wine Bar

P1110022

Another day, another ideal meal in Dublin with this one served at casual and comfy Piglet Wine Bar.

This laidback little eatery on the edge of Temple Bar was a last minute idea for dinner – but one that turned out to be brilliant. I loved the concept and the food and left wishing there was something similar in my hood back home in London.

I tried two dishes at Piglet: the grilled octopus with white beans and confit tomato salad and basil dressing (€10.50) and the orecchiette with Gubbeen’s Organic Farm pork ragú, smoked paprika, and Parmesan (€16.00). Both were excellent. Just to my liking actually: attractively presented but without faff or fuss, simple and using only a few key ingredients and not messing with them too much. The octopus was especially yummy and with a perfect texture (not rubbery at all) and nicely teamed with the white beans.

The wine list was a smart compilation of quaffs. But taken by an aperitif special listed on the blackboard, I treated myself to a glass of pineau des Charantes (€8.50) and stayed content with only that to drink.

As relaxed as the venue was service was quick and friendly.

Piglet Wine Bar is located at 5 Cow’s Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin 8, D08 F959. Find out more at pigletwinebar.ie.
