Best London Pop-Ups, Supper Clubs, Street Food, etc in 2016

This year, many of my favourite London meals didn’t occur at a traditional restaurant or via a kitchen with a permanent address. Keeping with current dining trends and continuing with my Best of 2016 series, here’s my list of Best London Pop-Ups, Takeovers, Supper Clubs etc of the year. Continue reading

Rib Fest Finale: Home Team BBQ at The Blues Kitchen Brixton

Damn. That was delicious! Deep flavour from the Deep South came to London for the finale of The Blues Kitchen Brixton’s Rib Fest with a sold out, one night only feast of epic proportion. In town from the States to man the grill were the award-winning keepers of the low and slow flame: Home Team BBQ. I was mightily glad to have managed to slide in for a taste of the action and reckon I enjoyed some of the best BBQ I’ve had since October 2015 when I had a chance to visit the Home Team fellas on their own turf of Charleston, South Carolina. Donostia Social Club at Pop Brixton

I’ve snooped round container village Pop Brixton a few times now since it opened back in the spring. I like the vibe. I love the food there too – especially what’s being cooked up at street food trader Donastia Social Club’s first permanent pintxos bar loftily situated on the top level and near the entrance. Yelp x tikichris: #CariocaSummer in Brixton!

Yes, I’ve raved about Carioca’s breakfast, and now I’m going back to try the summer menu and bringing a few lucky Yelpers and bloggers along for a samba-licious sip of the restaurant’s signature caipirinha followed by an exclusive sharing selection of Carioca’s classic Brazilian starters and refreshing new summer mains. Say Bom Dia to a Brazilian Breakfast at Carioca Brixton!

Brixton’s Market Row favourite, Carioca (formerly Prima Donna), has introduced a new selection of Brazilian style breakfast dishes to its daytime menu. Served from 10am to 4pm every day, the new brekkie items are freshly prepared in house with locally sourced ingredients and free range eggs by Brazilian head chef Lucy and her team. I had a more than ample taste last Sunday and found everything I tried to be expressly tudo bem. Continue reading

London Daily Photo: The Courtesan Dim Sum Bar in Brixton

Snapped this shot a few weeks back during a shindig at the Courtesan dim sum bar in Brixton. I had a lot of fun sampling the cocktails and absolutely loved their Wagyu and ribeye beef sliders.

Fantastic Tapas at a Nice Price: Brixton’s Boqueria

During our visit, portion size for most dishes was more than ample; service was brisk and attentive; and the vibe was delightfully low key with a bit of a buzz in the air. The mostly local guests seemed to come in all ages and varieties – couples, families with small children, groups of friends catching up – and all appeared equally excited to be spending a lovley evening out at La Boqueria.
