A Night Out at The Hippodrome

I’ve walked by The Hippodrome Casino at Leicester Square a zillion times. Not a gambling man, I never thought there was much inside the large scale and lavish venue for me. However, taking up an invitation to give Hippodrome’s food, booze and entertainment a try, I discovered there’s more to this Central London landmark than gambling. Continue reading

The Curiosity Cabaret: Offbeat, Potentially Poignant and Probably Gruesome?

Science inspires art in The Curiosity Cabaret, a new production coming to London for a limited run this December and the first ever cabaret in the style of a history of medicine lecture. Founded by medical doctor and circus owner Dr Clive Selwyn, the show “will fuse science and the arts together to create an entertaining cabaret experience” and will be held at The Old Operating Theatre in London Bridge, an actual operating theatre dating from 1822. Miss Behave’s Gameshow at London Wonderground

Miss Behave and her glamourous assistant Harriet (aka a rather thickly bearded Harry Clayton-Wright) wedge a full-on and eclectic variety show into a wacky gameshow demanding out of (and sometimes even on top of) your seats audience participation. It’s at once arbitrary, absurd, inane, and asinine … not to mention astoundingly fun! Ya got two more opportunities to catch Miss Behave at the London Wonderground. If you’re keen for camped up and mildly dirty entertainment, you’d be wise to book your tickets now. Continue reading

Win a £50 Voucher for Circus Cocktail Bar and Cabaret, Covent Garden

A cocktail bar, restaurant and cabaret, Circus offers a Pan Asian dinner menu alongside an enticing cocktail menu. Designed by British Tom Dixon, the surrealist interior is the perfect setting for wild cabarets, with actors performing on tables and vanishing in between courses. Following dinner and the performance, the West End venue turns into a dance space. Fun place, right? Thanks to a team up with online restaurant discovery guide, Zomato, I’m offering one lucky reader a free voucher worth £50 to spend at Circus. Continue reading

Black Cat Cabaret at a “Grand Scale and Secret Location”

Following sell out success at Cafe de Paris in 2013, Black Cat Cabaret has returned to the London stage for a string of sultry nights a la “the backstreets of vintage Montmartre.” I had a blast at the Black Cat’s 2014 premier this past Friday night. Held at a “grand scale and secret location – one of Central London’s hidden gems”, I was glad to see the show was as good as (or maybe just a little better than) when I caught it at Cafe de Paris last spring. Continue reading

Burlexe: Burlesque Inspired Theatre at London’s Shadow Lounge (OneTravel)

I, for one, enjoyed myself immensely when I checked out the show earlier this month. I laughed a lot. I blushed as dancers made eye contact, took to the audience and once when one performer ran her finger along my jawline. Ooh la la! Continue reading

Burlexe: Burlesque Inspired Theatre at Shadow Lounge, Soho

Featuring skits inspired by real life interviews with contemporary burlesque performers and stories “of the legends” along with actual dancers saucily stripping, Burlexe at Soho’s Shadow Lounge aspires to be the Vagina Monologues of burlesque. How’s that for a Wednesday night out on the town? Continue reading

Black Cat Cabaret at Cafe de Paris, London (OneTravel)

A tip of the hat to the legendary Le Chat Noir club of Paris, the Black Cat Cabaret at the historic Cafe de Paris at Leicester Square draws its inspiration from the “Absinthe-soaked, dark and daring heyday of Montmartre’s cabaret underworld” offering a chance to “discover decidedly modern performance in its many strange and wondrous forms.”

Review: Black Cat Cabaret at Cafe de Paris

I had so much fun during last night’s performance of Black Cat Cabaret at Cafe de Paris. It felt like a proper Friday night out, and I left with an arm wrapped round my sweetie with big smiles upon both our faces. Continue reading

Preview: Black Cat Cabaret at Cafe de Paris

Transforming the Titanic Ballroom at Cafe de Paris, Black Cat Cabaret draws inspiration from the “absinthe-soaked heyday of Montmartre’s dark and daring cabaret underworld” and with a line up featuring a “lip-syncing comic genius … showgirl dynamos .. daredevil aerial acrobatics … an accordionista of the apocalypse” and more, this certainly promises to be a quirky night out at the very least.
