Roam Around Rome: The City’s Best Street Food (Great Italian Chefs)

As is the case throughout Italy, I’m sure that Rome has an excellent restaurant and fine dining scene. However, despite having travelled there a number of times, I can’t seem to get past the phenomenal pizza and street food. For budget bites while seeing sights, there’s possibly no better destination in Europe than the Eternal City Continue reading

The Bell & Brisket Kitchen Takeover at The Barley Mow, Shoreditch

I’ve known Bel Shapiro – owner of The Bell & Brisket – for a number of years now and have been a fan of her “seriously pimped up salt beef bagels” all the while. I’ve also very much admired how she’s resisted any trendy urges to “go burger” along with the hipster tide and rather has looked to more local gourmand traditions to come up with something yummy that’s no less “street” and certainly just as zeitgeist-y as any other London grub you’re apt to sink your teeth into. Continue reading

Squid Kitchen Brings Madrid Street Market Style to The King & Co, Clapham

Continuing with its pop-up approach to pub grubbing, The King & Co in Clapham has opened its kitchen to Madrileño style street food vendors, Squid Kitchen. A match made in heaven? It is if crisp craft beer coupled with cones overflowing with calamari sounds like you kind of fiesta. I loved my nosh through the recent launch party and am happy to gloat … erm … share the highlights of that occasion with you. Continue reading

International Street Food Challenge: Copper and Wheat’s Croque Monsieur au Comté

I had a lot of fun foraging my foodie way through TravelSupermarket’s International Street Food Challenge a couple of weeks ago in Shoreditch. The free event offered guests the chance to sample a variety of authentic and delicious dishes cooked by a variety of vendors from around the world. Most of the traders on hand were from London. However, flown in all the way from Copenhagen was the popular duo of Frenchy gourmand maestros: Copper and Wheat. Continue reading

One of the highlights for me was getting to chat with Nick White, one of the founders of Orange Buffalo, and have a bite of his awesome and fiery Buffalo wings. Continue reading

Food Yard Friday at The Artworks Elephant, Elephant & Castle

I had a blast and a lot of amazing street food (and drink!) during last week’s inaugural Food Yard Friday at The Artworks Elephant (a studio and retail hub comprised of shipping containers situated near Elephant & Castle Station). And now that it’s Friday again, here’s your chance to partake in this delicious new series “of food, drink, art and music shebangs.” Whether you’re passing through or making Elephant & Castle your base for the evening, I highly recommend paying a visit. Just make sure to bring a hearty appetite! Continue reading

Lunch at Bunnychow

Bunnychow is a laidback sort of eatery with a no worries/no pretences vibe to it and where the star of the show is the filling and flavoursome food. Situated on Wardour Street in Soho (nearer the Shaftesbury Avenue end than the Oxford Street side), it’s a smart choice for an affordable quick bite … and if you like a bit of heat with your food, you’ll love bunnychow’s hot sauce (I sure did). Like Sunday Lunch for a Tuesday Tide Over at West Cornwall Pasty Co

So I was running around all over town yesterday without a chance to stop for a meal. At one point, I found myself at Waterloo Station (en route from Mayfair to South Bank with Soho, Camden and back home to Hackney lined up after that) and went with an old reliable for my din-din on the go: a pasty from West Cornwall Pasty Co. London Daily Photo: Thomasina Miers, Burrito Mama

Thomasina Meirs (fresh back to work from several months’ maternity leave) and the folksbehind popular London restaurant group, Wahaca, have announced plans to open Burrito Mama – a new takeaway restaurant at One New Change (along with an actual Wahaca outlet in the same shopping complex) – at the end of October.

For a taste of what’s to come, head over to Street Feast in Dalston today where Tommi and crew will be slinging beans and stuffin’ ’em in toasted tortillas at a pop-up market stall (don’t worry – there’s covered seating if it rains). I dropped by last night for a pork pibil “Mexicana Mama” (sin rice but abundantly filled with pork and crunchy slaw). Yum. Continue reading
