Liberty Cheesesteak Company: Real Deal Philly Cheesesteak

Finding no satisfaction in London’s “cheesesteak” offerings – or often any resemblance to the mega meaty two-hander sandwiches of Italian-American origin famously from his hometown – JP decided to bring it here himself. Long story short: he ended up having to come up with a recipe for the right kind of bread and even created his own “wiz” cheese sauce. As for the steak, JP was happy enough with already available rib eye, sliced ultra thin for tastiest and most genuinely Philadelphian results. Continue reading

Jerusalem City Break: Eat, Drink and Be Merry

A man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry (Ecclesiastes 8:15). I believe I only began to scratch the surface of the good food scene in this ancient city. Whatever the case, here’s the scoop on some of the yummier findings from my time in Jerusalem. Spaghetti Bolowhatta? The Real Bolognese Revealed (Great British Chefs)

Let’s get to the meat of the matter. There’s no such thing as spaghetti Bolognese. Or, at least, there isn’t in the actual city of Bologna. You would do well to seek Bolognese inspiration for its rich tradition in pasta making. It’s a deliciously saucy city too and one which rightly lays claim as the original home of a large variety of food products – just not spag bol. Bologna and the region of Emilia-Romagna have as prominent a cuisine and as celebrated a food culture as anywhere in the world. Even among Italians from other parts of the country, the gastronomic sensibilities of the Bolognese are held in the highest esteem. Continue reading
