#BBQbound: South in the Mouth Success!

My BBQ Bound miniseries chronicling my three-week quest for the best BBQ in the American South has now come to a burnt end. Ready for the recap?

Designing a road trip built around visit to as many of the States’ most highly regarded BBQ pits turned out to be one of the smartest – and tastiest – travel ideas I’ve ever had. A heaping helping of delectable local culture at every stop was all but ensured alongside the opportunity to enjoy some of the most deeply satisfying meals of my life – usually presented with warm reception at independent, family-owned establishments.

If I can inspire others to visit some of these amazing (and in a number of cases historic) eateries, to encourage visitors from abroad to venture beyond the New York – San Francisco – Orlando destination rigour, and to contribute to the longevity of great tradition and gorgeous food, then so much the better.

As fulfilling as the experience was, results of my efforts were hardly exhaustive. My list of visited establishments is not without glaring omissions. For each pit checked off, several other shrines of wood-smoked tradition were closed when I would have been able to visit or just out of reach for whatever reason. BBQ Bound Part Two? Here’s hoping! But in the meantime …

Addison Lee

My visit to the US began and ended with Heathrow airport transfers booked via the Addison Lee app. Yep, another awesome trip made easy by the services of London’s largest fleet of minicabs! I’ve relied on the app a number of times before and have yet to encounter issues or less than exemplary service. Find out more at addisonlee.com/apps.
