Tang Noodle Bar, Great Russell Street

Everybody needs a secret little noodle bar in life – and if it can offer reasonably priced nosh from a convenient location (in addition to boasting delicious dishes) then all the better. So for Londoners still searching for their own noodle niche, I present: Tang on Great Russell Street just off Tottenham Court Road.

I really enjoyed my slurp through the Tang menu.

An ample and spicy Prawn Tang with glass noodles, tiger prawns, bean sprouts, bok choi, six-minute egg, fried shallots, and chilli oil in a prawn and pork broth (£10) certainly satisfied with deep homey flavour. Small dishes like fried soya milk chicken with homemade hot sauce (£5) and crispy black bean tofu in a white miso sauce (£4.50) more than did the trick for my greedy taste buds too. Bun with slow-cooked, melt-in-your-mouth short rib with cucumber, coriander and vinegar reduction (£4.50) was so delicious I wished I’d had room for another (not to mention sampling other items off the menu). I ‘settled’ for a couple of scoops of palate cleansing and very refreshing sugarcane and shiso sorbet (£3.50).

Service was speedy and personably. The dining space was Spartan but pleasant, perfect for casual dining.

Tang is located at 111 Great Russell Street, WC1B 3NP. Find out more at tanglondon.co.uk.
