Good Stuff

I’ve been meaning to start up a new series of posts here on tikichris for a couple of weeks, but general busy-ness (fun and non-fun) has been holding me back. So today, the first in ages with a bit of freetime, I thought I’d commence my “Good Stuff” series – essentially just quick lists of things I’ve come across lately and have really enjoyed but for whatever reason they didn’t make it into their own blog posts on here, my tikichris-to-go Tumblr blog or one of my client’s blogs. The idea is to update weekly. However, in reality I think this is going to be more of a when I can get to it sort of thing. Anyway, here’s what’s been entertaining me over the past few weeks:

Thames Clippers: I took the Clipper from North Greenwich to Westminster. It was a gorgeous afternoon and the views of and from the Thames were magnificent. Comfy, convenient, nicely priced and offering a much more pleasant ride than some of the tourist boats cruising the river, the Thames Clipper is a great way to travel across London.

Japan Centre: I shopped and dined here a couple of times recently. Before that, it’d been several months since visiting. Delicious food (love the tempura at the centre’s Toku restaurant), okay prices and cool Japanese vibe in the heart of London.

Charing Cross Hotel: A blogger event and tour of the hotel led me here. It’s lovely and you can’t beat the location. Just above Charing Cross Station (but nicely soundproofed so you’d never know it until peeking out a window or hitting the streets), I’ve been walking by this place for years without realizing the history and luxury hovering above.

Palm 2: Now that I’m a Hackney homeowner (still haven’t moved into the new place yet), I’m having a great time exploring the area. I’m really amazed by Palm 2. Just a simple, independently owned local grocery but incredibly well stocked with super friendly and helpful staff. Seriously, being able to shop here regularly is one of the most exciting aspects about my move. I’m in love with the £2 made from scratch spinach pancakes.

Batman Live at the O2: Fun. I think a lot of the reviews I’ve read of this show missed the point. Story schmory. It was good eye candy. Loved the massive LED video wall, loved seeing thrilled little kids dressed up like the caped cruisader, loved turning my brain off for awhile and absorbing a stage performance of one of modern times’ best myths.

M&Ms World: I must admit I was kinda blown away by the sheer scale and vibrancy of this place. As cheesy and corporate as it is, I have a feeling that from time to time I’ll pop in this Leicester Square candyland for future doses of gawking and pop wonder.

More good stuff to come,
Chris
