Remember my last “Good Stuff” post? That was published just over a month ago. Lots more stuff’s been happening since then. And the wonderful thing is that most that stuff’s been good stuff. So, as with that last post back in September, here’s another list of things I’ve come across lately and have really enjoyed but for whatever reason they didn’t get much mention on this blog, my tikichris-to-go Tumblr blog or one of my client’s blogs.
The Skin I Live in: Is it even still being screened? If so and you haven’t seen it yet, it’s worth checking out. Vintage Almodavar to be sure and a bit of a mind fuck. At the very least, watching The Skin I Live in should inspire some interesting convo for days afterwards.
Wines of Croatia: I attend a Wines of Croatia tasting a few weeks back at Delfina restaurant (where I’m returning this coming week for a honey tasting) in Bermondsey. Among the 34 producers ant the 180 wines they brought to the show (obviously I didn’t try them all), natural wine Piquentum Terre 9 is most remembered for its rich, juicy complexity.
Berry Bros. & Rudd Anteprima Italy Tasting 2011: Attended this too. Many highlights as you might suspect but one ‘winner’ of a wine for me was obvious: the honeysuckle-y and crisp Fiano, Bianco Basilicata, Carbone.
Santa Pod: But it hasn’t been all snooty wine tastings for me lately. Considerably more low brow, I had an absolute (and extremely loud!) blast at the FIA European Drag Racing Championships held at Santa Pod Raceway. Insane fun – I hope to go again next year!
A La Cruz: I mentioned my visit to Argentine steakhouse, A La Cruz, and its asador grill (the only one in the UK) briefly in a recent Londonist post, but reckon that meal warrants a few more words. The slow cooked Welsh lamb, the steak and the fabulous wines amounted to one of the nicest dining experiences and best meals I’ve had this year.
Whisky Exchange Whisky Show 2011: Went to on Friday. Only problem was that I had to leave early because it was obvious I was not going to get anything else done other than drink whisky if I hung around any longer than an hour or so. Not a bad way to spend the day but a full load of work meant I had to get back to my digital grindstone! Best sips? Lagavulin‘s Distillers Edition and Bernheim wheat whiskey.
