Simple, to the point, tasty and cheap: a five quid bento box lunch with tagalong miso soup from ICN Gallery makes a lot of sense if you find yourself hungry and hanging around in the Shoreditch Triangle. And if you can spare a bit of time to check out what’s up on the walls in ICN’s gallery space, then so much the better.

Thanks for this reveiw, Chris. I went there today for lunch and it was very tasty. And I also like the bunch of friendly, simley people who work there. They have an exhibition opening this evening, might pop by.

I’m sure that this will become a very busy lunch spot in no time.

      Hey Jenn,

Awesome! Thanks for reading the review and for trusting my judgement.

Hope you’ve been well. What else have you been up to?

I’m good thanks! Tomorrow is my last day of a 2 week break, I could have done with a third week. Spent most of my time out and about in London, went to a few plays and renewed my membership with the Tate galleries. Hope to have lunch in the Corner Room tomorrow, it has been on my list since it opened.

Oh, and thanks to my lunchtime destination today I got a glimpse of Prince Charles – he was at his foundation in Charlotte Street (I was walking from White Cube to ICN), very obvious since there were about 10 armed policemen milling about. They held up the very busy Great Eastern Street to let HRH through without delay. Very OTT security and amusing to see all the way too cool for school Shoreditch folk beaming and waving at PC 🙂

that was supposed to be smiley, not simley 🙂

Good stuff! Sounds like you really made the most of your break. I could use a break but will be staying pretty busy until Christmas when I head to the States for a little while.

Enjoy the Corner Room. It’s one of the best places I’ve come across this year.

    🙂

Hey Chris, I went to the corner room for lunch today and will go again. There were some tiny glitches with the food but the service was second to none, knowledgeable and very friendly, and I loved the space. It was your review that convinced me to give the place a try, thanks for pointing me towards that little gem.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and everything is well with you. You must be looking forward to a well-deserved break, hope you have a great x-mas and see you sometime in 2012!

PS have you ever tried E5 bakehouse, they are in a railway arch near London Fields. The corner room gets their bread from them and it was by far the best bread I’ve had in the UK. Excellent, well-made sourdough bread. I think I will pay the bakery a visit this weekend to buy myself a loaf.

      Hey Jenn,

Sorry to be getting back to you so late.

What were the glitches in your meal at the Corner Room?

Thanksgiving was great. Did you do anything special for it?

I haven’t been to E5 Bakehouse, but you’re not the first to rec it to me. And as you point out I’ve had their bread (a couple of times) before. I’ve been meaning to check it out.

      Thanks!

    Hey Chris,

Well the squid starter looked and tasted a bit burnt and could have been warmer. With the main, squab with Cavolo nero & black pudding, the Cavolo nero was very tough (to the point that it was hard to cut) and chewy but to be fair it was the first time I had tried that particular type of kale so as far as I know it is suppsed to be that way.
But having said that, i do think that these are one-off glitches rather than a bad kitchen and would not hesitate to return to the corner room, I really really liked it there.
And BTW, the dessert was mind blowing – caramelised goat’s cheese with sisho sorbet, blueberries and a bit of lime-lemon sorbet, which made the mix of flavours even more interesting.

I didn’t do anything for Thanksgiving – my original plan was to attend the dinner organised by the Benjamin Franklin House but I was on hols that week, eating way too much in the first place as there were loads of places I wanted to try out, and decided against yet another big meal.

    Have a great weekend,

    Jenn

    That dessert sounds awesome!

Have you been to the Ben Franklin House before? I haven’t but would like to.
