Drake & Morgan bar and restaurant group has launched a couple of new “Britnic” picnic hampers. There’s a Gourmet Picnic Hamper with bottle of wine priced at £45.95 and a Classic Strawberries & Cream Hamper (perfect for the summer sports season) with a bottle of prosecco for £29.95. Both come in traditional wicker hampers bursting with delicious treats, a colourful blanket and all the utensils and other bits you need for a fun outdoor feast.
Let’s focus a sec on that Gourmet hamper. With it you get an antipasto board with a selection of cured meats, a Neal’s Yard cheese board, a Brindisa chorizo Scotch egg, any choice of salad and a bottle of wine (Long Beach Chenin Blanc or Grenache Merlot Fleur de Vigne).
Sounds yum doesn’t it? Want one for free? Here’s what to do. Simply leave a comment at the end of this post explaining where your favourite place in London to have a picnic is and why. On Friday 29 June at noon I’ll pick one winner at random.
To be eligible to win you’ll need to be 18 years of age or older and able to prove it. The winner can choose between the Gourmet Picnic Hamper or the Classic Strawberries & Cream. A £20 deposit is required for the Gourmet Picnic Hamper and £10 for the Classic Strawberries & Cream Hamper. The deposit will be refunded once the basket and blanket are returned.

So, where’s your favourite Britnic spot in London? Good luck!
COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED AND WINNERS HAVE BEEN SELECTED/CONTACTED. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR COMMENTS. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR MORE FUN AND FREEBIES TO COME!
My wife and I once had a picnic (before Junior arrived) on a small area in Hyde Park underneath some oak trees. It was the perfect blend of being a private-ish space, but with enough activity around us (bikes going past) to see the world around us.
Sweet! Good luck and thanks for chiming in 🙂
Hampstead Heath! Besides the incredible view, it is a calm and nice park to relax under the sun and have a picnic!
Excellent choice! I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t been to Hampstead Heath in ages. Too long! Thanks for reminding me I need to get back there before summer ends.
Primrose Hill… around 3pm when the rush of picnic goers have disappeared… the world just stops and you can stare at the view forever….
Nice one – and yes awesome view!
i just love the isabella plantation in richmond park, i grew up going for picnics in the 80’s and have passed this onto my own family.
Thanks for participating! Richmond Park is lovely.
I love Alexandra Park and the beautiful view you can enjoy from there… it is my favourite picnic spot at the moment 🙂
Great views!
my favourite picnic location bar none is the little known yet entirely grand Caledonian Park, specifically, inside the Caledonian Park Clock Tower which I am the caretaker of. On the 5th level up is the clock face room, where you are bathed in the warm diffusion of light as seen through the clock fascias facing N/S/E/W. Just above this level is the rampart view, with balconies overlooking the park and a remarkable view of the London Skyline. If I won I would love to take a couple of friends up to wind the clock, learn a bit about the history of the park and the tower while scrumping down from what looks to be a gorgeous picnic hamper.
Sounds fantastic. Still need to make it over there with my camera. Thanks for chiming in Alfie! Good luck.
At the risk of seeming terribly conventional, I’m a sucker for picinicing on the apex of Parliament Hill. There’s nothing quite like dining out on that view of London, glass of bubbly in hand, surrounded by great friends all basking together in the sunshine.
It seems like a picnic with a killer view is the way to go here in London. Good luck, Liz! Thanks for participating in this fun little competition.
My favourite spot to have a picnic in London is a bit unconventional! I love getting my house-mates together and sitting out on our tiny little sun-trap of a balcony. We settle down for a few hours with enough food and wine to keep us going. We have yet to buy patio furniture so it turns into a bit of a cushioned floor with a mixture of duvets and picnic rugs. Once you get some good music going, a rare bit of sunshine and the right company any little area can be transformed into picnic-heaven.
I love the DIY style. Enjoy your balcony … and fingers crossed we’ll get a proper summer yet! Thanks 🙂
Guess what, Roisin? You won! Congrats. I’ll be in touch soon with details on how to collect your picnic hamper. Have fun!
Greenwich Park. Lovely park…beautiful view.
The comments section of this post is turning into a list of the “Best Views of/in London” – great stuff!
It really is such a great insight though – the desire for views or vistas from high ground being something that folks crave when they dwell in a mostly flat city.
Liz,
Agreed! Roam around most of Zone 1 and you might not even realise how hilly greater London is.
Thanks! Good luck with the comp,
C
Love Trent Park . Large free car park with very rare toilet facilities. It is a huge park with two lakes, play area for children incorporated with innovative large tree trunks carved into animals that the children can scramble over, wooden carved picnic tables with chairs with backs also carved out of tree trunks. It has two large lakes with ducks and huge areas for picnics and games. Great walks and above all close to the tube station and bus stop. It is a template that all parks should be based on.
Hey thanks for sharing. Trent Park’s a new one to me! Sounds fantastic – I hope you haven’t given up your unspoiled secret to the world.
The flower gardens in Regents Park are wonderul to walk about in, and you can spread out when visiting for a picnic; plus they have a fab open air theatre. They also have special edition Regents Park honey from the bees there – it is yummy on toast! I would strongly recommend a visit whenever you are in the area.
Hey Jason,
That’s great advice. Thanks.
Hope you’re staying well 🙂
Chris
My favourite picnic spot is St Paul’s Shrubbery, off St Paul’s Road N1. It’s a little haven away from the busy road but still has something for everyone: sunken basketball court, playground, benches, flowerbeds and plenty of grass. A hidden gem.
That’s lovely, Sue. Thanks for sharing 🙂
St James’ Park is one of my favourite places to picnic. Last year I had the most fantastic picnic ever, it was just after the royal wedding, everyone was buzzing, the sun was shinning and there was such a great atmosphere! There were lots of people celebrating and it really brought everybody together. Everytime I go there it brings back great memories. I will remember that day forever.
St James’s Park might be my picnic pick too. I love the pelicans! Only complaint is it’s so popular. But I can’t blame anyone for wanting to spend time there.
I love battersea park, its a little haven amongst all those buildings and pollution.
The pagoda is lovely too 🙂
Canada suqare park not so much for the park but for the free open air concerts they do in the summer. Nothing beats chowing down, while a beautiful orchestra serenades you!
Didn’t realize they did big concerts like that. Yeah, that sounds great!
Marble Hill House between Richmond and Twickenham. Close to the first place I lived in when I came to live in London. They used to have summer concerts in the park too. 66 acres of Thames riverside parkland and a lovely Arcadian villa.
66 acres and still technically London. Wow.
My absolute favourite place to have a picnic in London is when it’s chucking it down with rain outside and your plans for Paddington Rec have been cancelled, you and your friends gather under a home-made camp in the front room with all the food you’ve bought together and get slowly tipsy listening to music and laughing like old times…
Perfect 🙂
Thanks ‘Dude!
Okay. I’ve chosen one winner at random.
And the winners is …
Roisin, whose favourite place in London for a picnic is her own “tiny little sun-trap of a balcony.”
Congratulations. I’ll be in touch with byou soon.
Cheers. I hope everybody has a fun weekend, and that the weather holds out for your picnics!
Chris
