A host of the UK’s best loved celebrities has teamed up with Daphne’s restaurant to give their own unique interpretation of a pen and ink sketch to raise vital funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
The sketch – a simple heart-shaped design created by East London illustrator, Emiloumakes – was inspired by the children’s cardiology unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the money raised from the sale will be put towards a four bed bay on the new cardiac ward. The new ward will provide families with modern facilities where a parent or carer can stay by their child’s bedside in comfort.
The 13 unique works, which will sell for £1,000 each, were created by an array of actors, presenters, artists, designers and musicians including Alan Rickman, Alison Jackson, Bill Nighy, Giles Deacon, Helena Bonham Carter, Jade Jagger, Jessie J, PPQ, Ronnie Wood, Russell Tovey, Theo Fennell, Victoria Pendleton, Zaha Hadid who were given free rein with the simple heart sketch and were at liberty to interpret and embellish it as they wished, offering the public a unique and rare insight into their minds and personal style through their own creative interpretation.
Says Richard Caring, owner of Daphne’s:
Daphne’s is a traditional local Italian restaurant and at weekends the place is full of the sound of laughter as children eat with their parents and grandparents. With this in mind we teamed up with Great Ormond Street Hospital so we could help them raise money through the Daphne’s Drawings. A host of celebrities … have used the image of a heart and drawn some fantastic pieces that will be exhibited and for sale in the restaurant, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.
The 50cm x 70cm paintings will be hung in Daphne’s light and airy rooms from Wednesday 4 September until Tuesday 1 October.
Daphne’s is located at 112 Draycott Avenue, SW3 3AE. Find out more at daphnes-restaurant.co.uk. For more info about Great Ormond Street Hospital visit gosh.org.
