Chris Osburn takes us on his journey of discovery in the Portuguese regions of Porto and the Douro Valley. The trip has clearly changed his views on Port as well as all wines from those areas he visited.
Discover the Origin is a delectably impressive Italo-Franco-Portuguese alliance united to raise awareness about five of Europe’s 1,873 protected products: wines from Burgundy, Parma ham, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and Port and Douro wines.
Two years ago this month, I was invited by the DTO folks to embark upon my first trip to “discover the origin” of some of Europe’s most iconic and distinctive food and wine. That initial expedition sent me to Burgundy where I spent a week visiting vineyards and wineries around the region. Later that same year, I got to learn about even more continental delights when I took a savoury sojourn to Italy to have a look at the traditions and big business behind Parma ham and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. Now, I’m back from a tour of Porto and the Douro Valley, the last of my DTO visits.
