Coming soon to a Byron near you: the Freddar Dawg, a “hamburger that thinks it’s a hot dog” and features the popular burger joint’s own newly created cheese – Freddar.
The Freddar Dawg is a cheeseburger stacked with a 6oz beef patty cut into (think: conjoined slider twins) and served in a brioche-y hot dog roll with streaky bacon, onion, pickles, shredded iceberg lettuce, American mustard, Byron sauce and (drumroll please) the newly debuted Freddar cheese.
The cheese is exclusive to Byron and made from a “top secret” recipe with “all the vibrant colour and melty goodness of American cheese.” A blend of Grana Padano, Red Leicester and mature Cheddar, it’s super yummy with a perfectly pliant, just-oozy-enough texture and seems pretty much to be an ideal cheese for a juicy burger.
As for the Dawg, it’s delicious (one of the better burgers I’ve had lately) but very much a form-over-function creation. Priced at £10.95, the Freddar Dawg will be available from 21 July until 31 August at all Byron restaurants. I suspect the new cheese will stay on the menu for well after that, as I’m certain it will prove to be a hit.
I tried my Dawg at a recent preview party held at the spacious Rathbone Place Byron just off Oxford Street (6 Rathbone Place, W1T 1HL). In addition to gluttonously gnashing my way through this limited edition elongated burger and going ga-ga over the new cheese, I really appreciated the chance to sample Byron’s summertime jalapeño slaw (£3.25). I couldn’t get enough of it!
There are almost 40 Byron outlets in London alone and a dozen or so more across the UK. For details go to byronhamburgers.com.
