Summertime’s the best time to eat buffalo mozzarella from the southern Italian region of Campania. The weather’s at its warmest, the grass and herbs are at their sweetest, and the water buffalos graze with glee, resulting in the tastiest, richest milk to be made into the famous white cheese.
Nobody in London knows this better than Neapolitan pizzeria, Rossopomodoro. The folks there are celebrating Mozzarella Season by transporting fresh mozzarella di buffalo twice weekly direct from Campania to its London restaurants – from production to plate with 24 hours – to offer guests two mega-milky options for festive get togethers: a 1kg Mozzarellona and a massive 3kg Trecciona.
The 1kg Mozzarellona serves six to ten people and is priced at £40. The 3kg Trecciona serves 20-30 people, costs £120, and requires a one-week advanced pre-order. Both are served with tomato bruschetta, grilled vegetables and prosciutto di Parma.
Lucky me, I got invited round for a trial run mozzarella party at the Fulham Road Rossopomodoro. A fan of its pizzas (among the very best to be had in London) and of buffalo mozzarella (one of my top five cheeses), it was an easy RSVP to make. I loved the chance to tuck into multiple servings of delicious freshly made mozzarella and found this special offer to be a fun way to dine with family and friends.
Rossopomodoro has eight locations throughout London as well as an outlet in Birmingham (not to mention Italy, France, Iceland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Japan and the US). I enjoyed my Mozzarella Season feast in the comfy upstairs dining room of Rossopomodoro’s Chelsea restaurant, 214 Fulham Road, SW10 9NB. Find out more at rossopomodoro.co.uk.
