Good Stuff #50

Good stuff and lots of it! Here’s the low down on some fine things to see, sip or savour – all of which I’ve recently come across and thought were worth sharing with you. Enjoy.

Nutrii

Nutrii is a protein rich, low fat quark (northern European fresh dairy product similar to fromage blanc, queso fresco, and cottage cheese). It’s yummy stuff and very filling. Compared with Greek yoghurt, Nutrii is less sour, more filling and creamy and has a higher protein content – at least 20g per pot – as well as more than twice the protein of low-fat yoghurt with just 49kcal per 100g and absolutely no additives. I’ve enjoyed having it with some granola in the morning for breakfast and on its own as an afternoon snack when I knew dinner was going to be late.

Pomora Olive Oil

Pomora is an olive tree adoption program with the goal of creating a community of food lovers and food producers who share an ethical vision. When you adopt a Pomora olive tree, you get quarterly deliveries of Italian olive oil (from Campania or Sicily), along with regular updates on your adopted tree from the independent farmer who tends to it (and whom you’re supporting). There’s a range of oils too: olio nuovo, flaovured oils such as rosemary, lemon, and perponcinio, and of course extra virgin. I’m working my way through samples of the range at the moment and loving every drop. The extra virgin is especially tasty.

Photofile: Marc Riboud

Featuring a wealth of photos from the early 1950s to the first few years of the 21st century by Magnum photographer Marc Riboud, this latest addition to Thames & Hudson’s Photofile series is a handy little book with more than 60 full-page reproductions printed in duotone with an intro by the photographer himself and a full biography. And I can’t help flipping through it every chance I get!

#SingaporeLive

Earlier this week I attended an evening of “immersive entertainment showcasing the very best food, fashion, cocktails and music of Singapore, unleashing Singapore’s creative side for 2016.” Held at Town Hall Hotel & Apartments in Bethnal Green, it was a great opportunity for me to get reacquainted with one of East London’s swisher hubs of culture while also learning about what promises to be hot and happening in Singapore for 2016. I especially appreciated the chance to have a bite or two of “rustic French” dishes by Chef Anthony Yeoh of “communal” restaurant Cocotte. His curried mussels were a treat!
