Good stuff and lots of it! Here’s the low down on some fine things to see, sip or savour – all of which I’ve recently come across and thought were worth sharing with you. Enjoy.
A new bimonthly magazine of “ideas, lifestyle and culture” has been launched by The Economist and named in honour of the year of it was founded. Published as an opportunity for the straight-laced publication to “unwind” with its readers when they “have their feet up” or are enjoying a weekend break or holiday, 1843’s content is travel heavy, tech savvy, and assumes deep appreciation of contemporary art and fashion.
I recently had my own toes pointed in an upward direction and decided to give the magazine a scan. A sizeable chunk of my leaf-through was considerably more hoity-toity and overtly droll than I would have preferred. 1843 contributor and “reluctant global citizen” Adrian Woodridge’s piece about why he hates Korean and Finnish breakfasts and how he once accidently ordered too much sushi during a Tokyo business trip came across as the sort of story that would have bombed as much at the dinner party table as I felt it did in print. However, I found an article about dating apps in China, graphic-rich analysis of the best and worst airlines, and a fairly well rounded travel section to make up for the richy rich tone and yield a worthwhile and insightful read. And – as is the case with any read of The Econonist – I adored the pithy ‘less is often more’ style of writing.
This new cold pressed apple (65%), asparagus (20%), cucumber (10%), spinach (3%) and lime (2%) juice drink from B.Fresh is an 80 calorie burst of flavour and a healthy thirst quencher. Look for it at Whole Foods and on the B.Fresh website.
Qcumber is a sparkling cucumber soda – without all the “nasties” and half the sugar of leading brands – that’s tasty and refreshign on its own and would be an ideal drink to mix with Pimm’s. The range features cucumber only (my fave), cucumber and mint, and cucumber and ginger. Find it at Tesco, Booths, Planet Organic, Ocado, Harrods, and Selfridges & Co.
Torres Selecta Black Truffle Potato Chips
Crunch with deeply flavoursome punch! My taste buds took notice when I bit into one of these crisps at a recent event catered by Fine Food Specialist (who stock Torres products).
