SodaStream invited me to take the Plastic Bottle Challenge and use one of its automatic sparkling water makers in an effort to cut back on buying bottle water. The results so far have been a sparkling success!
I grew up drinking lots of fizzy drinks. I’ve pretty much dropped that habit. I might still have a soda here and there throughout the year – but seriously just a very few, like less than once a month. I still crave the fizz though. I love the burn at the back of my throat from drinking a carbonated beverage as well as the cleaning feeling it leaves in the month. To quench my thirst for refreshment with a mild kick – while making sure I reach my daily intake of water – I buy a lot of bottles of sparkling water (club soda, seltzer, fizzy water, whatever you want to call it).
On a way too regular basis, I see the bottles stacking up in my recycling bin, and I don’t like it. Furthermore, I know I thoughtlessly discard too many empty bottles along my nonchalant way as I roam around town (and indeed the world) all the time. I don’t like that either. Plus (and this is a big one for me), spending money for water (even if it has some fizz) has always bothered me.
One SodaStream BPA free PET carbonating bottle saves the average household 2,190 bottles from being landfilled or ending up in our parks and beaches, over its three-year lifespan. It saves ‘em money too. So, when the folks at SodaStream got in touch a couple of weeks ago and offered to send me a Power Automatic Sparkling Water Makers, I was really stoked. I was keen to participated in the Plastic Bottle Challenge.
Already I can see having a SodaStream is making a difference with my recycling bin. It takes considerably longer to fill it. I can see with my wallet too. It’s taking longer for it empty! I’m keeping a few pre-fizzed bottles stocked up in my fridge to grab-and-go when I leave the house too, and thus buying fewer bottles of water when I’m out. I’m so pleased to realise that I’m saving money and doing less harm to the environment.
Of course I’ve yet to use up my 60l canister that came with my machine. But they’re reasonably priced and much cheaper than buying 60l of bottle watered.
If you’ve never tried a SodaStream, it’s ridiculously easy to use. Kinda fun too actually. And super quick (like three seconds). SodaStream has all sorts of drink mixes. They’re really popular I hear. I’ve yet to try any. I just love having sparkling water to drink on demand without spending money or sending another bottle to the landfill.
