Mia – a tikichris contributor, Cordon Bleu trained pastry chef, and mother of a toddler – visits The Langham London with her three-year old son for the launch of its new Children’s Tea with Hamleys – and gives it “triple whammy WOW!!” approval, from a pastry chef’s point of view, from a mum’s point of view, from a kid’s point of view.
The Pastry Chef
Being a Cordon Bleu trained Pastry Chef resulted in me being terribly high maintenance when it comes to all sugary creations. The Langham did not disappoint. I mean, Cherish Finden is the Executive Pastry Chef. The lady with the ruler on GBBO ‘Crème de la Crème”? Do I need to say more?? It was delicious, beautiful and very, very special.
The Mum
My son Kai and I were received with a very warm welcome and not for a second did I feel out of place or uneasy with my messy little companion. The tables were big with plenty of space in between them, which meant any faux pas committed by your little ones could go unnoticed. Staff was lovely and seemed to have endless patience to accommodate mum and child.
The child
Kai is three years old. He loved the colorful display and unsurprisingly the sugar feast: Cookie Monster Macaroon, Jigsaw Puzzle, Surprise Sweet Bag to name a few. And if that was not enough, at the end he met his new cuddly friend in form of a Hamleys Teddy Bear. What else do you need to buy into a toddler’s heart?
If you fancy to treat yourself and fancy a change to the usual family restaurant, Gastro pub, playground or playgroup, this is the place to go! Well in time for bedtime, and at the end of the day, what is better than a tipsy mum on Champagne and a toddler high on sugar?
Our favorites from the tea were the peppered beef pastrami and Red Leicester coleslaw on caraway and cocoa bread; the Wedgwood Wild Strawberry, a strawberry and pistachio cream macaroon; the Surprise Sweet Bag; and of course the Teddy Bear.
The Children’s Afternoon Tea with Hamleys is priced at £27.50 per child and available from 1 August in The Langham London’s Palm Court.
