As I wrote in my introduction to this series of posts, visiting Jerez felt like a dream. Being able to experience the city with hometown hero Tio Pepe made it one of the tastier dreams to come true for me as a writer since I started this blog.
I now rank Jerez among my most favourite destinations. The food and drink, the music, the street life – they were all so palpably distinctive and expressed with such eloquence. There’s something in the air there. And the folks who make the local quaffs seem to know this well, allowing wines to interact with oxygen in cask and age for up to 30 years.
Extra dry and best served chilled, Tio Pepe offers an equally distinctive first taste of this way of life and a liquid reminder of how fine a visit to this small city in the sunny south of Spain truly can be.
