There’s a good reason why Rosie Llewellyn is Grub Club’s top rated chef. Her food is fucking awesome and her A Little Lusciousness supper club – or at least the one Kemey and I attended this past Saturday – offers a cheerful dining experience is a pleasant setting.
I had enjoyed Rosie’s food before but never the pleasure of the complete pop-up restaurant experience. I’m glad I finally got round to it.
The blackberry themed menu for this past weekend’s dinner was a seasonal dream, bursting with early autumn flavours:
- Blackberry gin fizz;
- Venison carpaccio and lollipop, blackberry dressing, celeriac remoulade;
- Pork belly, butternut squash purée, blackberry pickle, buttered kale;
- Lemon posset with blackberry and sloe gin jelly, cobnut biscuits;
- Cheeseboard;
- Rum drenched blackberry chocolates.
I love every sip and bite and thought the meal showcased the key ingredient in novel ways without overdoing it. The oomph-y venison course was probably my favourite dish. But the pork was gorgeous too with ample and well-prepared crackling. Pescatarian Kemey was properly looked after too with delicious veggie and fish replacement dishes. The cheeseboard was the yummiest I’ve had set in front of me in a long while (even longer when you rule out a few recent trips to France).
The setting, Angie’s Little Food Shop in Chiswick (which I think is the default venue for Rosie’s pop-ups), was cozy and inviting. Guests at our table were equal an equal mix of couples, foodie compadres and solo diners. The conversation at the table where Kemey and I sat was friendly and lively. We felt able to huddle for private conversations and engage with the rest with our newfound friends as much as we liked. Service was swift, professional and polite.
