A fine meal in a fun setting was had recently at The Islington Townhouse.
During my dine I sampled a selection of small dishes from the “Autumn’s Plates” menu. Items included endive, pickled pear, Stilton and walnut salad (£6.50); chicken schnitzel with capers and brown butter (£7); venison kebab with cavelo nero and flatbread (£8), and monkfish kebab with quinoa, herbs, and flatbread (£7.50). I like them all, finding the seasonal dishes to be flavourful and inventive while restrained and rather simple.
I liked the look and feel of the venue too. Yep, it’s a townhouse – that big one at the corner of Liverpool Road and Chapel Market near Angel Station. It’s a bit of a labyrinth inside. The downstairs is very pubby,. A wander upstairs reveals a warren of rooms of varying size, from nookish and romantic to big and social.
Service was polite and on the ball.
A good place for casual drinks, sharing plates with large parties or even quiet and fairly intimate dates, The Islington Townhouse is located at 13 Liverpool Road, N1 0RW. Find out more at islingtontownhouse.co.uk.
