Beiriso Updated

One of the first eateries I reviewed this year was Beiriso near Holborn Station. The takeaway café with a menu focused on reasonably priced, freshly made and quickly served sushi and pasta invited me back recently for another taste after rearranging the dining area and giving it a refurb and honing in on the best aspects of their kitchen.

As I was in January, I’m still impressed by what I called at the front end of 2016 a ‘tasty assortment of lunchtime and on-the-hoof dining options to the hectic streets of Holborn that’s bound to woo passers-by with affordable prices and a mostly health-conscious selection of food and drink.’

Sushi’s still yummy as is the pasta, and portions are ample.

From the sushi bar, I sampled the Tuna Eden (six pieces of spicy tuna uramaki and two tuna nigiri pieces, edamame beans and mixed greens with wasabi, ginger and soya sauce in the box, £6.00 eat in/£7.20 takeaway). A couple of miso soup was a winner too (£1.50/£1.80).

By the way, during my visit I was informed Beiriso is planning to lower prices in the new year. I think that’s just for the sushi.

From the build-your-own pasta bar, linguine with arrabbiata, Italian sausage, spinach, Parmesan and pine nuts (£6.90) was a filling and flavourful assemblage. The options for designing your pasta are myriad with lots of toppings, sauces and more to choose from.

A double espresso on my way out was a quality brew worth mentioning too.

Beiriso has rejigged its public area so customer experience flows better. Furnishings and seatings are a bit homier too and much more comfortable than I remember from my initial visit.

If you’re buzzing through the area, looking for a quick bite or decent coffee, keep Beiriso in mind.

Beiriso is located at 18 Procter Street, WC1V 6NX. Find out more at beiriso.com.
