I scream. You scream. Everybody gets the point. And the point is not so long ago decent ice cream was in short supply on the London street. These days? No need to raise your voice – there’s plenty of top quality frozen treats to go round. Among the best is Gelataria 3Bis – a Borough Market shop celebrating its five-year anniversary.
Half a decade strong here in London, 3Bis has a 30 year history in Rimini. I dropped by the artisanal gelato maker’s London outpost recently for its birthday party (both London and Rimini openings share the same 10th of May date). During the event, I very much enjoyed having a few licks of some of the more intriguing flavours of the menu: Amarelli Liquorice and Parmesan Gelato (no, not at the same time).
The event was also a chance to try the shop’s new Chocoshot. Made in Italy, the Chocoshot is an edible wafer cup coated in dark, milk or white chocolate inside, that’s filled to order with fresh gelato and topped with your choice of toppings such as 3Bis’ warm from-the-tap hazelnut chocolate sauce. Yummy stuff – and practical too. You can actually set your ice cream “cone” down (not that you’d actually even want to though).
Oh from an overheard whisper at the party I ascertained there’s a new 3Bis Portobello in the works for the near future.
Gelataria 3Bis is located at 4 Park Street, SE1 9AB. Find out more at gelateria3bis.co.uk.
