Good stuff and lots of it!
Here’s the low down on some fine things to see, sip, savour and more – all of which I’ve recently come across and thought were worth sharing with you. Enjoy.
Produced by Fowey Valley Cider on the banks of the River Fowey in Cornwall with apples sourced within a 40-mile radius of its cidery, Casteldore is a new cider with a lovely, natural golden blush colour. At 6.5% ABV and light carbonation, it’s a crisp and palate cleansing quaff. The medium dry cider would pair well with broad variety of dishes, particularly baked goods, creamy dishes, roast pork and hams. Casteldore is is available online at Ellis Wharton Wines priced £22.00 for 12 bottles and also available individually at selected retailers for around £3.50 for a 330ml bottle.
I have tasted the future and it is coconut jerky. Back in March during IFE (The International Food & Drink Event) at Excel, I tried MightyBee’s raw, organic, vegan jerky made in London from gently dehydrated young Thai coconuts. Wow, it’s delicious – and free from gluten, refined sugar, dairy and preservatives. I especially liked the teriyaki flavoured jerky. The company does coconut water and virgin coconut meat as well.
Raw & Wild Activated Pili Nuts
I came across Raw & Wild’s Activated Pili Nuts at Excel as well, but at another show – the Natural & Organic Products Europe expo a few weeks ago in April. Pili Nuts are harvested wild from a volcanic region of the Philippines. They taste, well you know, nutty – a little like macadamias and pine nuts. About the size of an almond, the texture of a pili nut is kind of like a pine nut too. In the mouth it has a creamy texture after a bite or too with an oily finish. “Activated” means the nuts are pre-sprouted and dehydrated to preserve enzymes, minerals and nutrients by breaking down complex starch and neturalising the phytic acid. Pili nuts are especially rich in vitamin E and magnesium. Raw & Wild Activated Pili Nuts come in a range of flavours, but I think I like the plain best of all.
Pots & Co’s Malted Milk Chocolate Pot
Last month, Pots & Co released a Malted Milk Chocolate Pot made with single origin Colombian milk chocolate ganache infused with a hint of malt and topped with crispy chocolate pearls. The new dessert is smooth and tasty and comes in a nice reusable ceramic ramekin. Look for it at Waitrose, Tesco, Ocado, Boots and Selfridges at a recommended retail price of £2.
