Chef Adam Rawson has launched Bite Me Burger Co, a mini-burger only eatery on Kingsway just a short stroll from Holborn Station.
Despite their diminutive description, Bite Me’s mini-burgers are far from tiny, certainly more than a bite (or three), chunkier than a slider, and definitely big on flavour.
During my mid-week visit to the newly opened burger joint (in a shared space with Chinese fusion restaurant Cha Chaan Teng) I had a Quad (four mini-burgers or hotdog, £15). The Quad was a great way to have a taste of three of Bite Me’s nine burgers and its hot dog. I went with the Classic American Bite (aged grilled beef patty, American cheese, ketchup, mustard, and pickles); the Beef Encounter (aged grilled beef patty, special burger sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, and pickles); the Pluck Me (buttermilk fried chicken, yuzu mayo, shredded lettuce, and pickles); and the American Hot Dog (beef hot dog with crispy onions, tomato sauce and American mustard). I loved them all – and accompanied by an order of thick(ish) cut, skins-on fries with Himalayan salt (£3.50) and a vanilla shake (£5) – I was sated fully when ready to leave.
One mini-complaint about the fries though: they were tasty but went cold before I was done with my burgers. I think if the mesh container they were served in had been lined with some paper or if they’d been served in something without holes in it they might have stayed warmer longer.
Oh I had a beer too (a bottle of Beer Lao which was nice to see on the menu).
Adam Rawson is the two-time winner of the Slider Decider and ex Head Chef at Lucky Chip. So the dude knows his burgers big and small. Casual readers of this blog should be aware that I’m a fan of Rawson’s foodie doings. This new venture is no exception. I highly recommend Bite Me and strongly suspect I’ll be back soon for a repeat.
Bite Me Burger Co is located at 38 Kingsway, WC2B 6EY. There’s a “Locations” page on its website; so expect more outlets soon? For further details go to bitemeburgerco.com.
