Demi Perera celebrates Bubbledogs’ fifth anniversary.
It was champagne and hot dogs at dusk on Monday 4th September to celebrate the fifth birthday of Bubbledogs – the brainchild of Sandia Chang and James Knappett. They, of Michelin star restaurant Kitchen Table fame, threw a mother of a party at Borough Market with the return of The Hot Dog Challenge 2017.
There were nine dogs in the race battling it out to win the title. Defending champions Jonny Lake and Matt Larcombe (The Fat Duck), two Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge, Shaun Searley (Quality Chop House), Magnus Reid (Legs), Tomos Parry (former head chef at Kitty Fisher’s), Shake Shack’s Mark Rosati, Bonny Porter (Balls & Company), Ali Borer of Smoking Goat and Kitchen Table’s very own James Knappett were all competing to win the coveted title.
The dogs were blind tasted by a respectable judging panel of Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton, Bloomberg’s restaurant critic Richard Vines, Richard Turner of Hawksmoor and Scott Collins of Meat Liquor.
After much deliberation, the aptly named “I Love this Dog with All My Heart” created by Ali Borer of Smoking Goat was crowned 2017’s winner. You can now taste Ali’s award-winning dog (made of Ox heart larb and topped with crispy shallots and bitter leaves) at Bubbledogs for the next month. £1 of each dog sold will be donated to Action Against Hunger and the Red Cross.
Bubbledogs is located at 70 Charlotte Street, W1T 4QG. Find out more at bubbledogs.co.uk.
Thanks Demi for highlighting this funky restaurant. We had to check it out and loved it – hotdogs and champagne is such an amazing combination. Looking forward to your next recommendation. J
