Kemey Lafond checks out Decorex 2017 and shares the highlights here.
Leading in the field of interior design, Decorex 2017 focuses on design collaborations, details and craftsmanship for the luxury market.
The main entrance features an imposing carousel bringing together the worlds of fashion, floristry and interior design. I particularly like the set of Beata Heuman re-creating the studio of an interior designer which beautifully yet accurately shows the organised chaos of work in progress.
La piece de resistance of this year’s exhibition is without a doubt the Champagne Bar designed by Shalini Misra (www.shalinimisra.com). Inspired by The Great Exhibition of 1851 and based on paintings, drawings and advertisement of that time, the bar gorgeously combines rich velvets with geometric patterns and figurative motifs, as well as detailed ironwork and Victoriana finishes. The central chandelier is absolutely breathtaking (design by Erfre Studio for Clartes).
Amongst exhibitors, the work of Alexandra Llewellyn (www.alexandralldesign.com) stands out as the designer presents quirky and incredibly detailed backgammon boards along with bespoke games tables made out of rare woods and encased semi- precious stones.
The totem installation by Shade Volume (www.shadevolume.com) also caught my eye. This lighting collection offers a twist on classic ‘abat-jours” with the possibility of linking lampshades together, allowing endless configurations.
Decorex 2017 is a great opportunity to catch up on current trends of interior design and decoration, yet also a chance to connect with emerging talents. Arlette Ess (www.arlette-ess.com), a visual artist specialised in drawings creating wonderful organic designs for print on textiles and particularly on upholstery fabrics. Fay McCaul (www.faymccaul.com) who cleverly mixes modern materials with traditional knitting methods, creates elegant textile surfaces for wall coverings, partitions and installations.
