Good stuff and lots of it!
Here’s the low down on some fine things to see, sip, savour and more – all of which I’ve recently come across and thought were worth sharing with you. Enjoy.
Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen
So I’ve had the pleasure of travelling to some exceptionally sunny destinations over the past few months. It was good to have my 200ml tube of Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen along for the ride. And at only £4 it was an affordably acquired sidekick as well. Developed by skin cancer specialist Dr Andrew Birnie, Altruist uses sophisticated filters such as micronised titanium dioxide and Tinosorb A2B. It’s highly photo-stable too, which means its UV filters do not degrade easily in the sun and that’s suitable for sensitive skins. It’s water-resistant as well but not nearly as sticky as most sunscreens I’ve used. Look for it on sale exclusively at Amazon.
Some of those fabulous places I’ve visited recently were popular not only with the tourists but with the mozzies as well. And I’m glad to have had my Zap-It mosquito and insect bite relief device with me. I actually have no idea how this little gadget works. But it does! A tiny handheld piezo device, Zap-It generates a gentle and harmless low, electrical impulse when clicked against a bite. These zaps, created by crystals, work to reduce histamine flow and stimulate capillaries into flushing out toxins, and thus stopping the urge to itch and scratch. It can be used on up to 1,000 bites. It’s available at selected health stores, pharmacies, garden centres, Asda, Lloyds Pharmacy and Superdrug, and retails at RRP of £5.95.
Shockwaves Style Refresh and Volume Dry Shampoo Spray
Making it to some of these sunny and buggy places has meant hopping a long haul to get there. That’s fine by me but at the end of 10 or more hour journey without a shower, I can look like even more of a mess than usual. So Shockwaves dry shampoo from Wella has been a handy toiletry to have with me when freshening up inflight before landing. It works much like regular shampoo but doesn’t need to be wet to lather or rinsed out. Shockwaves comes in a 65ml bottle, an ideal size to include in your carryon items for your next flight. Get at Amazon for less than £1.20 (at the moment anyway).
Okay. So while not bounding round the globe, I’ve been enjoying my own home cooked breakfasts a lot more than usual. That’s in large part because I got hold of some rich and savoury Clonakilty black pudding – Ireland’s favourite black pudding that’s now available widely at Sainsbury’s, Budgens and Morrisons supermarkets across the UK (not to mention the Selfridges Food Hall and online at Ocado) at a RRP of £2.10 (per 200g).
I’ve been enjoying two newly launched Japanese sauces from Yutaka as well: Sesame and Miso Sauce and Yakisoba Sauce. Both are made using traditional, classic Japanese recipes. The Sesame and Miso is terrific as a dressing or dip while the Yakisoba adds instant and deep flavour to stir-fries and noodle dishes. Look for them at Tesco at the RRP of £2.30 for 150ml bottle.
At home and away, a few products from PNY have been making life simpler for me. In particular, PNY’s 2.4 amp wall charger has really come in handy. With its
unique design for Type C USB mobile and portable devices, it’s portable and sturdy and comes with a thick 1.2 meter USB-C cable. Similarly useful is PNY’s 16 GB USB Type-C 3.0 to Type A Flash Drive. It’s teensy but stores a lot!
