Yes, I known this blog is too often only about me stuffing my face and bragging about the yummy time I had doing so. But sometimes even a greedy gourmand like me can take time out to do something nice for others.
Such was the case when I pitched in to help Chef Jeremy Pang (of TV and School of Wok fame) and hundreds of other volunteers with his Wok for 1000 charity cooking event held recently at Borough Market.
Wok for 1000 is a behemoth of a cookery class (there were literally hundreds of participants filled into the Market Hall of Borough Market) with the aim of cooking at least 1,000 meals for people in need. Returning to the market for a second year, the activity was organised with Plan Zheroes, a UK-based charity seeking to inspire food businesses to share their surplus food with organisations who can redistribute it to reduce hunger and waste.
The event was a huge success – and a lot of fun! There were more than 1000 delicious individually packaged dishes (made with Jeremy’s recipes) for people in need and enough for all volunteers to enjoy a sit down lunch at the end.
