Last but not least, let’s have a beer.
I conclude my Best of 2017 lists with a round up of the tastiest and most intriguing beers I got to drink this year. The world may be falling apart at the seems but at least there are some amazing beers being brewed these days. Correlation? Hmmm ….
Please note, this list merely reflects how I chose to spend my time during the year and is comprised of well established and brand new venues as well as businesses that are somehow related to where work and play took me.
Items appear in alphabetic order, not ranked.
I’ll wrap up my Best of 2017 series with one more index post for easy access to all the list. Thanks for reading!
Best Beer
Heller Engel | Stadtmauer Brauer
Basel, Switzerland
I loved this crisp, flavoursome and aromatic unfiltered Pilsner from the first sip. If I ever make it back to Basel, I’m making a beeline for the brewery.

Howling Pils | Howling Hops
London
Floral and grassy with a golden hue and a clean finish make this Bohemian lager and lovely quencher of a beer.
4.6% ABV
Jan de Lichte | De Glazen Toren
Erpe-Mere, Belgium
This cloudy and grapefruity Belgian witbier is as refreshing and well crafted as a beer can be.
7% ABV
Maledetta | Birra del Borgo
Borgorose , Italy
Caramel and citrus notes and a balanced blend of bitter, sour and sweet make this farmhouse ale produced with a mix of wild and “tame” yeasts a beast unto itself – and one to behold for serious beer drinkers.
Lemon & Thyme Saison | Partizan Brewing
London
Light, zest, herby and mouth watering: this saison is a tasty easy drinker.
