Best London Burgers of 2017

P1030740

Whoa! There’s a beefy bunch of burgers in London. Most of them underwhelm. But the following six eateries do their burgers right.

Have a look at my Best of 2017 list of London’s tastiest burger and see what you think.

Please note, this list merely reflects how I chose to spend my time during the year and is comprised of well established and brand new venues as well as businesses that are somehow related to where work and play took me.

Items appear in alphabetic order, not ranked.

Best London Burgers

Bite Me Burger Co
38 Kingsway, WC2B 6EY
Despite the mini-burger only menu, the Bite Me Burger Co’s Chef Adam Rawson created burgers are far from tiny, certainly more than a bite (or three), chunkier than a slider, and definitely big on flavour.

Five Guys
Several outlets across London
Five Guys’ Little Cheeseburger isn’t all that little and, made with a 3.3 ounce chuck and sirloin blended patty, is certainly full of big flavour. It’s also one of my favourite things to eat.

Joe Allen
2 Burleigh Street, WC2R 0JJ
Though you might have trouble spotting it on the menu, Joe Allen’s burger is a big juicy bite of Americana and well established as the go-to burger in Theatreland.

Mac & Wild Devonshire Square
9A Devonshire Square, EC2M 4YN
Mac & Wild’s Veni-Moo burger is a fat stack of Scottish scrumptiousness featuring a beef patty, venison patty, cheese, Béarnaise sauce and caramelised onions served on a brioche bun.
Mac & Wild Devonshire Square is also listed in my ‘best of’ list for London cocktails.

Shake Shack
Several outlets across London
When a burger craving hits, it’s hard to beat a ShackBurger (100% Aberdeen Angus beef cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce). The Yard Burger – exclusive to the Cambridge Circus location and featuring an Aberdeen Angus patty topped with Neal’s Yard Hafod Cheddar, Wiltshire cured smoked bacon and a horseradish sauce – is a treat as well.

Timmy Green
11 Sir Simon Milton Square, Nova Victoria, SW1E 5DJ
Timmy’s Burger at Timmy Green in Victoria is a thing of beauty. And by beauty I mean 8oz of prime beef on a black brioche bun (cold fermented activated charcoal sourdough) with chilli pineapple salsa, back bacon and mature Cheddar (not to mention a a side of hand-cut twice-cooked duck fat fries).

The Wigmore
15 Langham Place, W1B 3DE
The grilled ox-tongue cheeseburger with crispy shallots at The Langham London’s new and instantly classic Marylebone pub is as meaty, juicy and tender as even a burger’s been.
The Wigmore is also listed in my ‘best of’ list for London Bars and Pubs.
