Haggis on a pizza!?!? Don’t knock till you’ve tried it. And if you’re trying it in Edinburgh, head to Dough Pizza for the especially tasty and haggis-enhanced Scozia pizza.
This isn’t the first time I’ve mentioned Dough on the blog. But, I thought the friendly little New Town pizzeria deserved a mention in my Haggis Hunt series. Back in the autumn when I was last in Edinburgh, I was so pleased to have happened upon Dough’s Rose Street outlet and had its wood-fire bked pizza made with seawater dough. The Scozia (handmade passata, fior di latte, Mcsweens Haggis, Stornaway Black Pudding, smoked pancetta, topped with a cracked egg, £13.95 for a 15” pie) kinda blew my pizza-loving mind.
So when I stuck in my hotel room for the evening bogged down in work for the rest of the night I was pleased to see Dough would deliver where I was staying. My pizza arrived well ahead of the delivery time suggested and tasted just as great as I remembered while setting me up with plenty for my din-din and for the next day’s brekkie as well.
Although in full disclosure, I thought it only fitting to sample something different from the Dough menu and went with a 15” Cheeky Choice (handmade passata, fior di latte, cured prime guanciale (pig’s cheek), and artichokes sprinkled with chilli flakes, £12.95). It was a winner. But in all honesty, I’d go with the Scozia next time I’m in town.
Dough Pizzeria is located at 172 Rose Street, EH2 4BA with a sister location in the Newington area of Edinburgh. Find out more at dough-pizza.co.uk.
