Haggis Hunt | The Royal McGregor

P1110054

First up among my haggis hunt highlights is the majestic breakfast I had at The Royal McGregor.

A relative newcomer to Edinburgh’s Old Town dining scene, The Royal McGregor is a whisky bar and restaurant set along the Royal Mile. The offering here is traditional Scottish cuisine supported by local indie beers and a lengthy list of whiskies served with friendly appreciation to a mostly tourists clientele.

A short stroll from my hotel and a strategic spot for commencing the work that had brought me north, a stop at the McGregor made sense for my morning meal. Coffee was nothing to rave about but good. My haggis filled roll (£2.75) on the other hand proved all sorts of worthy. Big and big-valued, it was hearty and delicious. Coupled with another roll (this one filled with egg and black pudding, £3.75) I was set for the day and glad I’d started it here.

As it was early morning with a full day of diligent doings ahead, I didn’t sample any of beers or whiskies. But perusing the lists of what I was passing up, I reckoned next go round in Edinburgh, this restaurant would be top choice for an evening visit.

The Royal McGregor is located at 154 High Street, EH1 1QS. Find out more at royalmcgregor.co.uk.
