Judith Schrut shares the highlights of her most recent NorCal adventure along with tips for planning your own in her (Northern) California Dreamin‘ series.

Every winter,  thousands of bargain and sun-hungry Brits flock to Florida for a booster dose of light, sea, sand and a sheer break from relentless grey skies.  But did you know that for just a few dollars more you can fly nonstop to Northern California instead?

There are loads of reasons to visit Northern California any time of year: its awesome natural beauty, bountiful sunshine, outstanding local food and wine, great outdoor adventures, nice people and Trader Joe’s, to name a handful.

But winter and early spring have the added advantage of being the cheapest times to visit, with particular bargains on flights from London Gatwick to Oakland (the ‘other’ city on San Francisco Bay), leaving you that little bit more to spend California dreamin’.

So why not bypass the resort crowds, shopping malls and theme parks of Florida and head for NorCal’s lovable cities and charming towns, scenic coast, mountains, forests and wine country, and the chance to scoop up  some great deals at hotels and inns?

Stay tuned for more (Northern) California Dreamin’ posts coming soon.
