Sushi in the City Brunch at Devonshire Club

Sushi? Yay. Brunch? Yay. Sushi brunch? Maybe.

The Saturday only Sushi in the City Brunch menu at Devonshire Club brings with it the chance to check out the swish digs of this usually members-only venue. But how’s the food? Here’s my take on a recent visit.

First off, I really did like the Art Deco look of this place. Didn’t mind the convenient Devonshire Square location near Liverpool Street Station either. In fact, I left enquiring about joining and membership fees.

As for the food, all was delicious but something about the six-course menu seemed a bit patched together and all that cohesive. Best bites were had during the ample first course of sushi and sashimi. I loved the butterfish sashimi and the softshell crab maki. Miso blackened cod was a total treat. Raw vegetables and pickles with ponzu dip and seafood as well as vegetables tempura were super tasty too. Dishes that were perfectly adequate but somehow didn’t quite synch with the rest of the courses included the roast pork belly ramen and the crispy duck and pomegranate salad. I would have preferred more sushi or seafood.

With the meal was unlimited Champagne which paired well with all the courses.

Service was swift and friendly. Presentation of dishes was elegant and appetizing.

Sushi in the City Brunch is a limited offer menu priced at £50 per person (add £15 for bottomless prosecco, or £30 for bottomless Champagne). Service is in two hour slots from 1130am to 4:30pm every Saturday for a minimum of two guests.

Devonshire Club is located at 5 Devonshire Square, EC2M 4YD. Find out more at
