Demi Perera previews City Life Festival.
It would be more than fair to say that London has a unique identity. It’s not something that is tangible and it’s never been an easy thing to define. Londoners’ appreciate it and it’s also the capital’s biggest allure. So, why haven’t we tried to celebrate our connectivity and togetherness before? I guess it’s always been a matter of how exactly we’d bring all of the facets together. Well, wonder no more. This October we shall celebrate London in all its glory. City Life Festival, curated by Second Home, debuts a month-long series of events across the capital.
What can be expected of City Life Festival? Supper clubs, film screenings, discussions and musical performances across London’s celebrated spaces such as the Museum of London, Spitalfields and Holland Park. The program commenced this week at the Museum of London with Lily Cole and Rohan Silva, co-founder of Second Home, discussing the importance of belonging and the evolving face of the city.
Highlights from the calendar include Forgotten Women on 10th October at Spitalfields; an evening of reading, discussion and storytelling by UK Broadly Editor Zing Tsjeng and writers Sharlene Teo and Daisy Johnson. A Caribbean Sunday roast dinner hosted by Shelly Belly on 14th October, also at Spitalfields, with toe tapping sounds provided by Reggea Roast sound system. Fashioning London, on 25th October in Holland Park, will explore London fashion from Pearly Kings and Queens to punks. Fashion historian Amber Butchart, trend consultant Katie Baron and writer John-Michael O’Sullivan will be on hand to kick-start a conversation on why London remains one of the most stylish cities in the world.
All in all City Life promises to be a stimulating dose of cultural exploration in to the beating heart of London. At best it will celebrate London’s sites, creativity and people. At worst it will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy great food, great music and a good conversation. Either way, that’s October wrapped up!
