Love Jamon Iberico or wonder why so many people make such a big deal about Spanish ham? If you’re out shopping at Westfield London or Liverpool ONE in the coming days keep an eye out for a “Ham Truck” offering free samples of Iberian Ham as well as carving demonstrations and more as part of a 25,000 Ham Passion Tour of Europe.
The Ham Truck is cruising across Europe to introduce folks to Iberian Ham and raise awareness about its “high-quality production in areas such as food safety, traceability, animal welfare, values of the product linked to the breed, feeding and management of the Iberian pig, a model of sustainable production, of balance between respect for the environment and the sustainable exploration of natural resources.”
Essentially that means you can stop by to enjoy a generous taste of expertly sliced pieces of ham while learning about the select breed of pigs reared for the product and the unique environment where they roam freely eating acorns. You might also be able to pick up a few tips about how to carve a ham for the tastiest results along with some serving suggestions.
I dropped by the Ham Truck at Westfield the other day. Raquel Acosta (one of very few female carvers) was on hand to show off her skills and answer questions about her profession and why Jamon Iberico is so delicious. With a salty, nutty, fatty flavour that’s second to none, it’s definitely one of my favourite things to eat.
The Ham Truck is in London London now to Saturday 10 November at Westfield London, Ariel Way, W12 7GF (near the entrance to Shepherd’s Bush station). From London, the truck heads to Liverpool. Look for it from 13 to 15 November on Church Street near Liverpool ONE. Find out more at hampassiontour.eu.
