Judith Schrut gets ready to face the music at AmericanaFest UK 2019.
Americana fans (that’s me) will be flocking to Hackney, East London this week for AmericanaFest UK 2019, three days of glorious Americana music in all shapes, sounds and styles. Reliable sources tell me there are still some tickets left for tonight’s and tomorrow’s live music Showcase and Thursday’s Gala International Awards Show, but if you’re keen I recommend you get in quick!
The Showcase is a transatlantic fantasy for lovers of roots, blues, bluegrass, new-grass, folk rock and alt-country music, with over 50 artists from the UK, USA and Canada gigging their hearts out at five uber-cool Hackney venues. This year’s Showcase star hosts are CIMA’s Canadian Blast, Thirty Tigers from Nashville and Big Indie from Austin. Amongst the incredible range of musicians performing will be Gangstagrass, Whiskey Shivers, Asleep at the Wheel, Treetop Flyers and Beth Rowley.
The Gala Awards Show takes place at the Hackney Empire and looks equally amazing, There will be performances from nominated artists and celebrity guests including Graham Nash, Rhiannon Giddens (ex-Carolina Chocolate Drops), Seth Lakeman and Mary Gauthier.
AmericanaFest UK takes place on 29-31 January 2019, hosted by AmericanaUK, a nonprofit trade association for American Roots professionals in the UK. Tickets are £27.50 for the Showcase, happening at various venues in Hackney E8, and £35 for the Gala Awards Show at the Hackney Empire, 291 Mare Street, E8 1EJ. Tickets and more at theamauk.org.
