In just three weeks, my blog post about my new year’s resolution has evolved into a series of five posts.
That was not the plan or how I thought this resolution might play out.
Initially, I wondered if I was going to fall into a monotonous routine, rattling on about sad attempts to get back into the habit of blogging and struggling to find adequate time to do so. Instead, my resolve to blog regularly has turned into a far more enlightening exercise: acknowledging the importance of serendipity.
Serendipity is the occurrence of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way. Embracing serendipity means accepting the potential of the unexpected and the unknown while being willing to adapt to new ideas and inspiration. With respect to writing – and my desire to do so more regularly via this blog – embracing serendipity might offer me a more dynamic and interesting writing experience.
Encountering those parakeets in my back garden a couple of weekends ago helped me realise that sometimes the best writing results from being open to the unexpected and honouring the experience. As I continue my attempt at writing regularly, I’m going to try to make a conscious effort to allow serendipity to play a role in my process.
Now, I just need to figure out how to actively incorporate serendipity into my writing process – good stuff to ponder for my next instalment of this new series!
