Stephen Triffitt | Frank Sinatra’s Songs for Swingin’ Lovers | Cadogan Hall

A few weeks back, I attended a performance of Frank Sinatra’s Songs for Swingin’ Lovers by Stephen Triffitt with the Manhattan Swing Orchestra at Cadogan Hall.

The opportunity to enjoy acclaimed Sinatra tribute artist, Triffitt, work magic with what’s considered by many (including me) to be a masterpiece for both Sinatra and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra in such a world class setting was a sheer delight, particular of the otherwise quiet Sunday evening when I attended the one-night-only event.

It should be noted this delight was an invited one, with tickets for me and a guest offered as an opportunity for me to review the show.

I took the invitation as a great excuse for a night out and to admire a historic venue and its marvellous acoustics. Having never been to Cadogan Hall I was keen to check it out. Just off Sloane Square, the Edwardian architectural marvel is well known for the warm sound and intimate feel of its auditorium. Having now sat in the 950-seat space, I can attest it was a comfortable setting for a crooner and big band concert.

As for Triffitt – what a voice! His casual competence exuded expert appreciation for the material – some of Sinatra’s biggest hits such as “You Make Me Feel So Young”, “Old Devil Moon”, “Pennies from Heaven”, “Love is Here to Stay”, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”, and … well honesty, each of the 15 tracks on Songs for Swingin’ Lovers is a classic. The Manhattan Swing Orchestra demonstrated similar confidence with the set.

If you find a chance to catch Triffit or the Manhattan Swing Orchestra performing strongly consider it! Likewise any opportunity to enjoy a live performance at Cadogan Hall is a good opportunity to enjoy a warm acoustics in a gorgeous and historic setting.

Cadogan Hall is located at 5 Sloane Terrace, SW1X 9DQ. Find out more at https://cadoganhall.com/.
